Becoming an Agent

Aira is an information-providing service that empowers individuals who are blind or visually impaired to live with greater freedom and independence. We want you to join our growing network of Aira agents! Regardless of your current stage in life, becoming an Aira agent is an incredibly fulfilling career with a flexible schedule.

As an Aira agent you simply log onto our specialized dashboard from your personal computer at home and begin answering live video calls from our Explorers who reside across the United States. Every day, the scenarios are varied and unique - you could help them shop, read books to their children, cook meals, or navigate to locations in their daily lives.

To see what we do in action go to Aira Inspiration, and check out our website.

We are looking for:

  • People who are enthusiastic, eager, and well-spoken.
  • People who love to search the web and find the best, most relevant information.
  • People who can multitask while remaining focused and calm.
  • People who can work through complicated tasks and technical difficulties.
  • People located in the United States.

Requirements:

  • A personal computer, our dashboard is NOT compatible on tablets or smartphones, and a great internet connection.
  • A minimum of 2 years of customer service experience.
  • Must be a high school graduate, some college preferred.
  • A quiet place from which to work free from family, friends, pets, etc.

Computer Requirements:

  • A minimum of a CPU 4 CORE.
  • A minimum of 8 GB RAM.
  • A minimum of 40 GBS available disk space.
  • A Windows or Mac computer using Windows 10 or Mac OS Sierra, respectively.

Internet Requirements:

Bonus Skills:

  • Military experience or Military spouse.
  • 2 years or more of secondary education.
  • Experience working with the Blind and Low Vision community.

First, click the “Apply Now” button on the homepage. After answering some preliminary questions, you may be invited to take an aptitude test that will check to see if you have some of the necessary skills of an Aira agent. If you pass the test you may be invited for an interview. Following the interview, if an offer is extended and you pass a background check, then you will begin training to become a full-fledged Aira agent.

Agents must be high school graduates, 18+, and a college degree is strongly preferred but not required.

We want to ensure that a new Aira agent is prepared before taking Explorer calls. First, there is a text and video based web training where you learn about the blind and low vision community as well as best agent practices. Following this web training, you’ll go through a short orientation to learn how to use our specialized Aira platform. After orientation, there is a group training period where you will use Aira’s platform and interact with a trainer who is blind. Once you’re ready to take calls, you’ll be paired with an experienced agent for your first few calls so that you can see how the pros do it.

Finally, you will have completed our thorough training program and be ready to take calls from our Explorers!

As an Aira agent you need to be able to pass a background check, provide proof of U.S. citizenship as well as a social security number.

Technical Requirements

Computer Requirements:

  • A minimum of a CPU 4 CORE.
  • A minimum of 8 GB RAM.
  • A minimum of 40 GBS available disk space.
  • A Windows or Mac computer using Windows 10 or Mac OS Sierra, respectively.

Internet Requirements:

  • A minimum speed of 25 MBPS.

Agents must possess a working knowledge of Mirocrosoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.) and/or similar programs such as those used in Google Drive. We have developed our own specialized Aira Dashboard for assisting users, and Agents will be trained to use it. Other than that, everything else is a bonus.

While being an Aira agent does require a certain level of tech-savviness and quick problem solving ability, and Aira agents are trained to provide basic troubleshooting tips and tricks, you can always refer an Explorer to our technical support team if the issue they are experiencing is beyond your knowledge.

Working With Aira

We are currently open 18 hours a day from 4am to 10pm PST, 7 days a week. In the near future we will be moving to a 24 hour a day service, 7 days a week! Schedules are made based on the need for agents at a given time and we can be as flexible as needed. Aira has a competitive pay scale and you can't beat the reward of making the world instantly accessible for all. Our Aira agents get paid on a semimonthly payroll, meaning twice per month.

Aira Agents are independent contractors. As such, they are paid only for work performed, are not eligible for benefits or overtime, and are responsible for their own equipment, schedule and taxes.

That depends on you! The online aptitude test should take you no more than 40 minutes to complete. The interview tends to be around 45 minutes from start to finish.
